WILHELM AWARD
Award Nomination Guidelines
The Wilhelm Award is presented periodically by Friends of Ohio Barns to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the understanding of our heritage of historic barns. Those nominated for the award should have made, but are not limited to, significant contributions in the following areas, enhancing the general public’s understanding of the importance of conservation of our historic barns for future generations.
Academic Research
Studies and publications that further the understanding of the origins of the barn builders, barn styles and types and the agricultural practices associated with historic barns.
Education
Involvement in teaching how to undertake, or participating in publication of articles, books or online information, research studies, restoration projects, field studies, workshops and other activities that enhance the public’s understanding of the importance of conservation of historic barns.
Conservation
Studies and publications that further the understanding of the origins of the barn builders, barn styles and types and the agricultural practices associated with historic barns.
Leadership
Promoting programs, initiatives, organizations and public policies which enhance the public’s understanding of the importance of conservation of historic barns.
HISTORY
Hubert H. G. Wilhelm has devoted much of his life to the study of Ohio’s past, with a specific interest in the settlement patters and agricultural practices of Ohio’s early residents, and how they affected Ohio’s diverse heritage of historic barns. This award was created by Friends of Ohio Barns to honor Hubert G. H. Wilhelm in recognition of his pioneering spirit and outstanding achievement in promoting the appreciation, significance, and preservation of Ohio’s historic barns.
